We encourage you to try something new.
Not all rules should be followed. We’re not opposed to taking a few risks.
After all, shouldn’t wine be fun?

Dedicated to crafting rare wines from uncommon varietals and character-rich vineyards, Imagery Estate Winery was forged from a thirst for experimentation. Worldly wines like Malbec, Tempranillo, and Lagrein will broaden the horizon of anyone, from aspiring wino to seasoned connoisseur. We shine the spotlight on interesting varietals, wine rock stars that are all too often swallowed up in big blends. Visit our estate and you’ll find that taste won’t be the only sense stimulated. Delight your eyes as well as your palate with access to our unique art collection.

    Jamie Benziger

Born and raised in Sonoma County’s wine business has been such an amazing privilege, however growing up, Jamie says she didn’t fully understand what she was a part of.  As a kid Jamie was always on the move whether it was playing soccer, riding her pony, or running around the winery with her two sisters, Kelly and Jill.  It wasn’t until Jamie was studying Marketing at Loyola Marymount University and working summers in the concierge booth that she realized she wanted the family business to be her future.  To get closer to home and the winery, Jamie transferred to Sonoma State University to complete her marketing degree and add wine business to her studies. She interned at Gundlach Bundschu winery and then branched out into winemaking after graduating.  As soon as Jamie had worked her first harvest in the lab at Benziger she was mesmerized by winemaking.  Since that first harvest in 2009, Jamie has had incredible opportunities to continue learning the chemistry of wine in the lab at St. Francis and Bogle wineries, traveling to New Zealand to drag hoses in the cellar at Villa Maria, and get her hands dirty in the field at Enterprise Vineyards.  Now, after exploring the many facets of winemaking and the wine business, she is finally back home and working alongside the most incredible winemaker and her number one mentor, her dad, Joe Benziger.

    Mark Burningham

General Manager of North Coast Operations

Mark Burningham received a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University in Business Management with an emphasis in marketing, and took various viticulture classes at UC Davis. Mark came to know Benziger Family wines while handling them for his wine distributing business in Santa Rosa. When he joined the winery in 1987, he threw himself into the development of the business with such Benziger-like zeal that he eventually became an unofficial member of the family. Today, Mark works closely with Benziger and Imagery’s growers and is dedicated to farming for quality and flavor. Mark manages the grape supply for Benziger and Imagery and authored Benziger’s innovative Farming for Flavors Certified Sustainable Grape Growing Program.

    Joe Benziger

In the early 1980’s, the Benziger family migrated west from New York and started a winery on Sonoma Mountain. After a few years of helping his family make larger production wines, Joe decided that there were some vineyard lots that were just too good to get lost in a big blend. He set out to showcase these special vineyard sites in a series of small artisan wines.

Imagery was born and under Joe’s direction the emphasis evolved to lesser-known varietals and esoteric blends. As he discovered rare wines, Joe became passionate about unusual grapes and the Barbera within was unleashed.

Today, Joe hand crafts more than 30 small lot, estate or single vineyard wines each year. Each embodies his fun loving spirit of discovery, curiosity and individuality.

Joe and his wife Diane have three daughters who have each been involved in the winery at one time or another. Kelly, Jamie and Jill share his passion for life and fine wine and we suspect his first grandson Ian, will follow suit.

    Jill Benziger

    Family Ambassador

Growing up around estate vineyards, olive groves and organic gardens made the wine industry irresistible to Jill Benziger. After all, it was in her blood and experiencing the thrill of harvest year after year helped define her own passions. Today Jill is the family ambassador at Imagery Estate Winery & Benziger Family Winery where she creates a welcoming environment for winery visitors, offering education and an inside perspective on the winery. Like her father, winemaker Joe Benziger, Jill is grounded in the family belief that wine should be fun and loves helping guests experience something new at Imagery.

Like all Benzigers, Jill understood the importance of gaining experience outside the family business as well. Prior to joining Imagery & Benziger full time, Jill continued to hone her skills in educating customers on wine styles and sharing descriptive vineyard stories, while maintaining high level customer service at Francis Ford Coppola Winery.

Jill has a degree in psychology from Sonoma State University and resides in Santa Rosa with her sister and two French bull dogs, Macy and Theo. When she’s not at the winery, Jill enjoys outdoor concerts, playing golf and entertaining with her 19 Benziger cousins.
