Our 2009 Lagrein is full bodied and very approachable with its mixed berry and spice aromas paired with plum and black cherry. Firm tannins grip the palate ahead of a long raspberry and pepper finish.
Malbec is known for its deep purple color and ample tannins, offering not only a pleasing visual but a soft, lush structure with a smooth mouthfeel. Ripe with notes of plum, blackberry, and a hint of anise. Excellent now and with proper cellaring, it will continue to develop for the next 3-5 years.
Savory, bright cranberry and strawberry nip at sides of the palate while its powerful tannins pinch. Lingering bittersweet chocolate aromas improve when decanted.
Joe described this 2009 vintage as a Syrah for “the French wine lovers." Rich plum and red raspberry flavors on the front compete for attention from the blueberry finish. This wine has a sturdy structure. Decant before serving to soften the tannins and allow the fruit flavors to come forward.
Ripe with notes of plum, blackberry, and a hint of anise, followed by an intoxicating caramel quality in the nose. Excellent now and with proper cellaring, it will continue to develop.
Called Monastrell in its native region of Spain, Mourvèdre is most famous in Southern Rhône for its blending capabilities. Notoriously playing the role of “M” in GSM blends, its beautiful dark color and high acid and tannin attributes offset that of its lesser Rhône comrades. The varietal thrives in the red volcanic soil found on Shannon Ridge Vineyard in High Valley, Lake County. This spot produces fruit with deep, rich flavors due to the cooling affects of nearby Clear Lake.
Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and adds bright cherry and blackberry flavors while showing rich in the middle. Merlot gives the wine a bit of softness with a big cherry punch. Malbec rounds out the structure with a blueberry aroma and deep crimson color.
Primitivo is very closely related to Zinfandel and like its brethren, this release boasts medium body, dark fruit flavors and earthy elements of spice and pepper.
