Vintage
Malbec, one of the classic red Bordeaux grapes is an early ripener that yields soft wines of low acidity, moderate tannins, good color and fruity flavors reminiscent of blackberries. 1998 was a late and short season. A cold, wet winter preceded a long cool growing season, which didn't warm until September and October. The result was a small very intensely flavored crop, that benefited from extended "hang time" to develop the concentrated varietal character of the grapes.

Vinification
Malbec from both vineyards was fermented in small bins and punched down by hand. The wines were pressed at dryness and then placed in a combination of 2 and 3 year old French oak barrels for 15 months. The final wine was blended and bottled, unfiltered in May of 2000. Alc. 13.2%, TA .59, pH 3.7, RS .01.

Tasting Notes
Aromas are of berry, spice and vanilla, with intense flavors of creamy blueberry, spice and oak. Serve this with spicy pork tenderloin or a rack of lamb.
